Aftercare.

All of my aftercare instructions are suggestions. You know your body best, and if you have a preferred routine that works for you, stick with that!

If you experience any difficulties with aftercare or have further questions, do not hesitate to contact me via email or Instagram.

I use different types of aftercare bandages depending on the client and the piece.

  • If you were given Saniderm (also called DermShield or Tagaderm)…

    • Leave the adhesive bandage on your tattoo for up to 3 days

    • If the bandage leaks, peels, or exposes the tattoo remove the entire thing immediately

    • Remove the bandage under lukewarm running water, the water will ease the discomfort of the adhesive and make it easier to remove

  • If you were wrapped with a meatpacking bandage or saran wrap…

    • Keep the bandage over the tattoo until you arrive home/ have access to a private restroom with scentless soap

    • Remove the bandage and immediately wash it

Once your bandage has been removed start cleaning the tattoo at least twice a day. If you think your tattoo has been exposed to dirt/grime/gross stuff it’s never a bad idea to wash it again

  • Clean the tattoo with scentless soap. Do not use any soap with perfumes or exfoliants

    • You can use a liquid soap like Dial Gold, or a plain gentle bar soap like Dove

  • Moisturize the tattoo regularly. Only use a small amount to prevent dryness after washing, or to relieve the need to itch

    • I recommend a scentless lotion such as Aveeno, CeraVe, or Aquaphor

    • Aftercare creams such as Hustle Butter or After Inked are also fine

IMPORTANT:

  • Don’t submerge or soak your tattoo for the first three weeks (baths, pools, the ocean, etc.)

  • Don’t itch or scratch at your tattoo. Don’t pick at any scabbing that may form. This may cause the tattoo to be blurred or faded

  • Don’t over-moisturize your tattoo, it shouldn’t look wet

  • Apply sunscreen to the tattoo if you’re having prolonged sun exposure, especially in the first month

  • Your tattoo will be healed when the skin barrier is sealed over it completely, it should feel smooth to the touch
